Assignment 11

Schulwerk

When I search the video it won't pop up but here is the link!

Kodaly

Dalcroze

All of these methods focused on music and some movement, while Schulwerk and Dalcroze were very movement centered. Kodaly and Schulwerk have a more structured lesson, yet Dalcroze wanted to let children explore how their bodies can interpret the music and let the story wonder.

Week 9 - Instrument Families

  1. PERCUSSION FAMILY  - this video demonstrates the percussion family because he is hitting, tapping, and shaking instruments that do not change pitch.

2. STRING FAMILY - This video demonstrates the string family because the strings are being strummed with the bow.

3. BRASS FAMILY - this video demonstrates the brass family because she is pressing the keys to change the pitch of the pipe.

4. WOODWIND FAMILY - this video the woodwind family because she is blowing over the instrument to produce sound while pressing on multiple keys

Week 7 - Vocal Technique

I chose the wonderful Miranda Sings as my example for how NOT to sing! She is not in tune and forces herself out of range.

For someone who sings correctly I chose the comedian that plays Miranda, Colleen Ballinger. She and her duet partner are both using correct posture and are singing in harmony.

Week 6

I did the "Rain on the Green Grass" poem correctly, so I am not sure where else I could improve. One thing I wish I did was take more time in presenting my poem. One issue I believe I have is that I am still camera shy and have trouble getting things right the first couple tries. I believe this issue will fade as we continue to record ourselves.

Rhythm

My definition of RHYTHM is the uniformed repetition between vibrations and silence.

  • What do you like about the way she presented the information? Why?
      • Miss Taylor was VERY ANIMATED which will keep the children on their toes! It's like reading a story to a child, why read it in your voice when you can create a voice so they will want to listen. I also applaud  her for shortening the definition so the child will be able to understand the concept! She encouraged the class to create their own assumption of what was the definition of rhythm. I really liked this idea and could consider using this when introducing new concepts in my own classroom.

  • What do you dislike about the way she presented information? Why?
      • The only thing I wished Miss Taylor did was ask her "audience" what their definitions were, although I doubt she had a real class there.

    • Is this an example of good teaching? Why do you think so?
        • I believe this is a good example of teaching, her attitude and enthusiasm were very memorable and encouraging to when you begin to teach a lesson. Especially for this age group, I can sense how a younger child would laugh and giggle about how she was loud in one of the sections (I believe it was when she was giving the longer definition, assuming no one understood what she said).
      • How many different ways did she present the information? Why do you think this is important?
        1. Definition
        2. Refined definition
        3. Picture
        4. Clapping the beat
          • This is important because it allowed for all learning styles to understand how to determine the definition of rhythm.

      Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Chelsea and I am a sophomore at WVSU. I am majoring in Special Education and Early Elementary. To help my interest in children grow, I work at a daycare in South Charleston during the week. I currently work with one year olds and infants and observing their milestones excited me so much to have my own classroom and reach milestones with my own students!

This September I will be turning 20. I am the oldest of 4. I have two brothers and a sister. The age gaps between us range from 6, 8, 12 years. My younger sister, Madeline, is my world! We are best friends and there is nothing I wouldn't do for her!

Some other random things about me are that I have three animals, a cat named Rocky and two dogs named Bella and Marvel. I also used be in the marching band in high school as a color guard member. Not only that, I danced for 16 years!
                                  Marvel
                                  Rocky
                                   Bella

I'm hoping this course will expand my knowledge with how to use music in my everyday lessons, whether it be now with my children in the daycare, but also with the students who's minds I'll be harvesting in the future!
